THE CLASSES - ALL OPEN LEVEL
What to Expect with CHAIRLUSTRÉ
  1. Warm-Up and Conditioning:

    • As with most acrobatic or circus arts, a warm-up is essential. You’ll begin with general stretches and mobility exercises to get your body ready for the class. These exercises are often focused on strengthening key muscle groups (like the core, arms, and legs) and increasing flexibility, especially in the shoulders, hips, and spine.

    • Some classes may also include drills for improving balance, grip strength, and body control, which are key to working safely and confidently with the chair.

  2. Learning Basic Chair Techniques:

    • The class will usually start with basic chair poses and movements. This could include learning how to hold onto the chair in different ways, perform spins, or balance on the chair for stability.

    • You may also practice simple acrobatic moves such as chair leg swings, seated poses, or leaning poses (where your body is supported by the chair). These skills lay the foundation for more advanced manoeuvres.

  3. Building More Complex Moves:

    • As you progress in the class, you'll move on to more advanced techniques, including acrobatic poses and inversions. You might learn how to balance on the back of the chair, spin in a graceful, controlled manner, or even incorporate partner work for lifts and acrobatic tricks.

    • You’ll also work on transitioning from one pose to another, making your movements fluid and dynamic, which is a huge part of what makes acrobatic chair so fun to practice.

  4. Choreography and Routine Building:

    • In many classes, you will learn how to string together the movements and tricks you’ve practiced into a flowing routine or sequence. This is where the creative, artistic side of acrobatic chair comes in!

    • The focus is on performance, so the choreography often includes elements of dance, fluid transitions, and dramatic poses that add flair and style to your movement. Some routines might even have theatrical elements, helping students to express their creativity and personality through the art of acrobatic chair.

  5. Strength and Flexibility Work:

    • As the chair work can be physically demanding, acrobatic chair classes often incorporate exercises to increase overall body strength, especially in the arms, core, and legs. You'll work on exercises that prepare your body for lifting, balancing, and holding poses.

    • Flexibility training is also a key component, as it allows you to execute more complex and graceful movements with ease.

  6. Cool-Down and Relaxation:

    • After working through the moves and routines, the class will typically end with a cool-down session to stretch and relax the muscles. This could involve deep stretching or restorative movements, ensuring your body feels relaxed and restored.
